MMA Training for Self Defence
Standard MMA training will always improve your SD capabilities, no matter your background. There are very few options for training against a resistant opponent with several options, punch, kick, grab, throw, submit etc than with MMA training, again IMO much better than the Traditional thing. In a
ny case please check also these videos to see some other type of training we do here in Portugal. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2900480967613616314 http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3240720379911693029 http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3936682904989090808

Hi, I enjoyed the ... ( 1 year ago by promaijoe)
Hi, I enjoyed the vid, I have just wondered why it is called '....for self defence'. Although many techniques from MMA can be used in a street situation, MMA does not address the pre fight confrontation and decision making. I love MMA and training, but don't be fooled, with all the MMA skills in the world you can still be hit over the head if your decision making is poor and you have positioned yourself in a bad situation.

First, how many street fights have you been in where they drag out for minutes on end? Second, how many street fights have you won where every other move you turned you weak side (back) to the guy fighting you? And third, if you are conditioning for a street fight, take off the pads and get your body used to it. Start off at 30% and go up from there. Always go a LITTLE LESS than you think you can. It prevents injury.

Sorry, but you ... ( 1 year ago by SinfulHedgehog)
Sorry, but you really can't. You need someone who does it perfectly almost every time to do every lock, strangle and takedown on you so that you know how it feels. Books are a memory aid, you need the knowledge to be able to interpret them properly.

Agreed 100%. The problem I find on most self defense systems, is that they don
´t have a test drive procedure like the ones you use in confrontational sports like MMA. As for the preemptive solutions, again you are correct. But in the way I think, you have to have both, good fitness, explosive technique and decision making. But best off all I really enjoy myself taking and gi
ving some slaps in MMA training. It´s better than those endless katas or No sense Self defense drills. Thanks.
Just a few ... ( 11 months ago by Jalukas09)
Just a few questions, I'm not trying to be sarcastic or anything but:
When these "gangsters" swing wildly like that over and over again do you think that there is any real power behind it? I mean it might hurt but does it do any real damage that you can't quickly recover from? Won't it just wear them out or leave them more open to attack? What do you guys think?
I agree with you, ... ( 11 months ago by nkcbi101)
I agree with you, but there's always the reality of a "lucky" punch. Even people who swing wildly (like a windmill) might succeed with a luck knock-out punch.
But yeah...in-experienced fighters are prone to losing for various reasons.

Oh ur r right like jacksparrow said wait for the rite oppyunity moment :D yea thx and i think when i take them on ground their thinkinmg will be like ok i need to get up haha . hey btw anyone use wingchun and jiujitsu at ur mma cuz i saw this guy using it it it really useful good combo
"Opportune moment": ... ( 11 months ago by Jalukas09)
"Opportune moment": For me anyway would be right as they swing the first punch. I'd put a side-kick in their chest. Like you said, you might be able to duck under their punches and do a takedown and start grappling. Their reaction to either one would probably be "WTF?!" followed closely by "OUCH!"

I agree with the endless kata and no sense self-defense, but this video doesn't show self-defense either. How long do you think a real-life confrontation is going to last. How are either of these fighters going to react when an assailant(s)doesn't want to go three rounds & isn't looking to be alpha male, but just wants to kill. This is training for sports, you said it yourself. Don't kid yourself, it isn't going to be one on one, winner or loser.
Is this a bout your ... ( 3 months ago by whitt088)
Is this a bout your speaking of, or real life. If it is a bout, good luck, I'll be cheering. If it is real life, don't assume that an attacker is going to be a one-punch-kill, or that their will only be one of them. Assume they already carry weapons. Also, don't get sucked into the mind set that you're superman. There are no rules in real-world combat.

Thank's for the comment. If you take the time you can clearly see my approach on SD training on other videos on my youtube account. At my age I know this much being fit is so much important in a SD scenario. And this is a good way for being fit, has for one punch one kill, weapons on the street, please se my other videos and then post back. Don
´t worry I´ve reached an age that I can´t afford the time to "kid myself". Thank´s for the input.
Tell the guy in the ... ( 2 months ago by hwoarang7676)
Tell the guy in the white t-shirt to go for the inside, not the outside on those sweeps. But if he does want to go to the outside, it works better if he gets the outside and pulls his opponent toward that leg to get them on the ground. Also have him work on form and rhythm. He threw kicks at good times but did them off balance and did not follow up in the best way.
